Election Day is October 21, 2019

There has never been a more critical time to speak up for women’s and trans rights.

Every single night over 3,000 women, along with 2,900 dependent children, live in emergency shelters across Canada to escape gender-based violence.

Violence is the number one reason a woman becomes homeless. The lack of affordable housing across the country remains one of the most significant barriers for survivors to move into security and safety.

For women in Canada, housing, homelessness and gender-based violence are closely connected. Indigenous, racialized and newcomer women, women with disabilities, and trans communities are disproportionately impacted.

YWCA Toronto is part of a national YW movement speaking up for women’s rights. We are committed to advancing the social, economic, reproductive and political rights of women, girls and gender diverse communities.

As part of a broader coalition, we urge all federal political party leaders to prioritize an end to gender-based violence in our country and to invest at least 50% of the Canada Housing Benefit in women and women-led households.

Join our movement today and tell them why you speak up for women’s and trans rights! #YSpeakUp
