No Place Like Elm
green, affordable, supportive
(coming in 2011)
Documented research and mounting evidence confirms that the solution to poverty and homelessness is affordable and supportive housing. YWCA Elm Centre will offer women and women-led families in Toronto the keys to independence and stability by providing 300 new units of affordable and supportive housing for low-income women and their families, for women living with mental illness and substance abuse, and for families of Aboriginal ancestry. It will also be home to YWCA Toronto’s new administrative headquarters and a hub for women-focused events and activities in our city.
YWCA Elm Centre is the largest affordable and supportive housing development for women in Canada, and will feature:
- 150 affordable apartments for single women and women-led families
- 100 supportive & affordable apartments for women living with mental health issues and substance misuse, and their children
- 50 affordable apartments for individuals and families of Aboriginal ancestry, including 10 units for Aboriginal women fleeing violence
- 15% of the 300 apartments (45 apartments) will be for women aged 50+
