YWCA JUMP is a support program for newcomer women funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The program helps women explore career options, build skills, search for jobs and integrate into Canadian society.
What does this program offer?
Newcomer settlement support:
- experienced employment and settlement counsellors
- help exploring career options in the current labour market that suit your skills, strengths and interests
- help to learn new skills to find meaningful work
- help to develop assertiveness and effective communication, time management, financial planning and study skills
- opportunities to discuss goals and challenges
- useful information about the community
- help applying to colleges and universities
- volunteer opportunities to gain Canadian experience and/or meet High School Community Service requirements
- youth leadership development
- computer café
- a welcoming women only space
Workshops and training topics include:
- cash register training
- customer service training
- babysitting training
- food preparation (to gain skills for working in a restaurant)
- computer skills training
- writing a winning résumé/cover letter
- job interview skills
Special events and trips:
- guest speakers covering a range of settlement topics
- mentoring events
- cultural celebrations
- fairs and college and university tours
- field trips to sites such as the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum and the Toronto Zoo
- fun activities such as bowling, skating, movie nights, sports
- spa, yoga and wellness days
Who is this program for?
- women and girls new to Canada over 13 years of age who are permanent residents or convention refugees
Our staff speak Cantonese, French, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tamil, Tibetan and Urdu.
