Course Outline

Enhance your skills in planning, drafting and reviewing. Learn techniques that cover a variety of different types of writing, including e-mails, reports and meeting minutes. Participants have the opportunity to review and edit their own writing samples. A personal action plan for success provides you with immediate, practical application of techniques on the job.

participants learn:

planning

Define writing goals and the needs of readers. Review options and the effect of positioning purpose statements. Review different sequences for structuring information based on positive or negative messaging. Create an outline before drafting and gain practice with the framework.

composing

Recognize the techniques of readable writing: word choices, sentence formation,
active/passive voice and paragraph structure. Discover quick ways to overcome writer’s block and easily phrase the openings and closings of communications. Review the effective use of headings and lists to structure information.

reviewing

Create a tone appropriate to medium. Use various formatting techniques and ways to enhance written communication through presentation. Practice proofreading and editing techniques.

preparing

Review the structures of a variety of organizational documents, including agendas, minutes, reports and policies.
