A powerful and important influence in the lives of young women, the YWCA Teen Mothers’ program provides support to young mothers (14-22 years old), their children and information to the community. The program is offered two evenings a week at two different locations in Scarborough. We also provide home visiting, on-going telephone and in-person counselling, vocational guidance, advocacy and information on resources and referrals while addressing your needs and the needs of your children. We'll support you through your own personal growth while fostering and understanding of the needs of your children as they develop.

Life Skills/parenting groups

During your time with us you will meet with both the program worker and childcare staff regularly. This will allow you to consider you own needs and personal goals as you discuss ways of setting and reaching realistic goals. Topics for the life skills/parenting sessions include child development, relationships, woman abuse, safety, stress management, self care, discipline, self esteem, communication, goal setting, budgeting, nutrition, sexuality, and problem solving.

children’s groups

crazy duoThe childcare groups are delivered with the belief that children are unique and can develop fully in a safe, happy and stimulating environment. This program is delivered within a "family group" setting, providing quality care for infants, toddlers and preschool children. Since children are at various ages and stages of development, individual program activities are planned to meet the specific need of each child.

parent/child interactive groups

Parent and child interactive sessions are planned for the beginning of each group. They are designed to support you in your parenting through role modelling and sharing information related to children and child development. We cover areas such as, the importance of play, ages and stages of children and development, child safety practices, good food for children, and child guidance.
