Family Legal Education for Women (FLEW)

FLEW logoFollowing on the success of the No Religious Arbitration Coalition the Ontario Women’s Directorate invited a consortium of six equality-seeking women’s agencies to embark on an ambitious public legal education and community outreach project.  This consortium of organizations - which include, YWCA Toronto, Metropolitan Toronto Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC), Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO), Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW), Springtide Resources and the National Association of Women and the Law (NAWL) – is now called Family Legal Education for Women (FLEW) and is working together to develop materials to inform and enable women who are facing family law issues to make their own decisions with the benefit of accurate and relevant legal information.

The purpose of FLEW is to increase women’s knowledge of their rights under Canadian and Ontario family law and we need your help. We are particularly concerned with reaching women who are isolated or disadvantaged due to recent immigration and/or religious, ethno-cultural, linguistic, disability-related, geographic or other factors limiting their access to information and their ability to exercise their rights with respect to family law matters. We are currently gathering information that will assist us in identifying information gaps in family law and education materials.
